The week of January 22-26, 2024 is AMDSB’s Mental Health and Well-Being Awareness (MHWB) Week. During this week, students, staff, and caregivers are encouraged to learn more about mental health and well-being. A number of activities have been planned over the lunch hour to engage students in the conversation. An image on the side lists the activities (Jan. 22 - Wellness Bingo, Jan. 23 - Positive Affirmation Challenge, Jan. 24 - Bell Let's Talk Day and a Relaxation Break with our Pawfect Friends, Jan. 25 - Mental Health Resource Hub and Panther Colours Day, Jan. 26 - Grub Day)
We know that as caregivers, you want your children to be mentally well, grow up happy, and learn how to navigate life’s challenges. However, it’s not always easy to know how to support the children and youth in your care. Please see these resources to help support conversations with your children:
- AMDSB-Community Mental Health and Well-Being Supports (There is also a section on the school website under the Student section labelled - Get Help Now)
- Coping Strategies for At Home – Mental Health and Well-Being (This link is also found on the school website under the Student and Parent/Caregiver sections - Coping Strategies for At Home and School)
- AMDSB Lunch and Learn Presentations - next one will be in February (more details to come in our February Newsletter)
- School Council has organized a Family Information Night. Leroy Hibbert, the guest speaker, will be exploring the dynamics of culture and how it shapes the way we see the world. Practical ways to address racism and cultural misunderstandings while empowering participants to engage in positive and healthy cross-cultural interactions is the goal of the information night. A light supper will be provided and it all starts at 6:00 p.m. on January 31 in our Learning Commons. See you there.
