Community Involvement Information - Graduation Requirement

The community involvement requirement for graduation has reverted back to pre-COVID-19 rules.

Students graduating in the 2023-24 school year and beyond, will once again be required to complete 40 hours of community involvement activities.
  • During the past three years, students could earn hours during the time allotted for the instructional program in a school day, and through duties normally performed in the home. This included helping an elderly relative with an errand or a sibling with homework. Additionally, students could count a maximum of 10 hours from paid employment for students aged 14 years and older. These flexible measures will not continue for the 2023-24 school year.
      • If students completed hours using these flexible measures prior to September 1, 2023, those hours can be accepted and should be submitted as soon as possible. Use the forms below and deliver them to the Student Services (guidance) office.
  • Remember, hours beyond the required 40 will not be recorded. You should keep those sheets in a folder to use for scholarship and resume purposes.
  • Hours must be completed by mid June of the students' graduating year to allow for approval by the principal. Community Involvement hours that are not approved will not count for graduation requirements.
  • If you are unsure if an activity qualifies for Community Involvement", check with the principal or guidance counsellors to ensure your hours will be approved before completing the activity.
  • Please hand in your completed community involvement sheets in the Student Services (guidance) office regularly (you don't have to wait to get all 40 hours).
